Hi,

Just upgraded my gfx card from a 560 gtx to a 670, and my PC is taking like 1 minute to boot now, any idea how I can fix this? It used to be like 15 seconds..

Specs:

Windows 8 Pro 64bit
i5 3570K,
Nvidia 670
8GB RAM
Samsung 840 SSD
Seagate barracuda 500gb
650w OCZ PSU
Z77 D3H motherboard

Do you have any external USB drives connected? Mine was did the same until I disconnected it!

Also, have you removed the old graphics drivers before installing the new ones?

+1 for USB HDDs being a problem. My old WD MyBook makes my PC take about 1 minute to boot up! Without it (just with my Samsung M2) takes a matter of seconds after POST.

Nah, all I have plugged in is my USB headset, mouse, keyboard.

And yea I did remove the old gfx drivers last night, using driver sweeper, cleaned the registry etc. I had windows updates as well last night too, which could have done something?

But it hanged on post before installing new drivers and after install.

Tried a couple of games on my SSD and on my HDD and performance is perfect. So I'm stumped haha

When you say perfect, have you tried a proper benchmarking program to assess read/write speeds?

I'm wondering if something's changed internally with windows. I'm presuming you're set up with AHCI in the BIOS? (don't change it right now if not!).

Yea, I've changed nothing at all pretty much.

Last night Windows installed 9 updates then I uninstalled my old drivers using above method, took out old gfx card, plugged in new, slow post.. Installed new gfx drivers, restarted (slow post), played BF3 on Ultra for 30 mins was stable and no noticeable stutter, fps drops etc.

Loaded up samsung SSD magician and 'optmized' the ssd and benchmarked, 550 read 250 write speed.

I cant seem to get into BIOS though, it seems like its hanging but then goes into windows fine :s

My usb ports keep randomly changing too, like I have to swop my mouse and keyboard ports because different ones keep being powered on / off

Have you tried without the USB headset plugged in?

Mine was doing the same when I had my USB printer connected. Disconnected it as an experiment and Bingo! Now I only connect things I might want after startup.

I'll try it, but I can't see how this would develop over night? :p

Unplugged all USBs and still does it, tried a PS/2 keyboard and I can't get into BIOS

Sorry for double post but if anyone finds this thread on google or whatever, I fixed this by flashing my BIOS to the latest firmware & reinstalled Windows in the process.

I did have to put my old GFX card in though to do it all because I tried reinstalling Windows with my new card in but it just got stuck on a black screen with a flashing _
