Installed my asus 5850 today Graphics are noticeably better / smoother in bbc2. Only gripe appears to be with pc boot-up. For some reason, now my pc takes a good 45-50 secs after I hit the power button, to post and begin load into Windows. Never had this before with my 8800gtx .Looking on goggle tonight I not the one with this probs.

what mobo u got mate.i have same problem .changed my 8800gtx with asus 5870 and having nothing but problems.i have the striker extreme but there is no update at the moment for this problem, but there is bios updates for other motherboards.just check with your motherboard site for bios update.looks like i will be forced in upgrading my mobo and cpu when i get some money to do so.mine takes about 5 mins to boot and scans the cd drives first.really annoying.i have tried everything untill i looked around and its deffo a mobo problem.

If the problem is before Windows starts loading then only a motherboard or graphics card bios update is probably going to help.

I would contact Asus support to see if this is a known issue with your motherboard.

chris
i had exactly the same issue and still do
only 10.1' driver sets dont slow the boot and stutdown process for me, everything else is slow.
i even had a huge thread in the HDD section of the forum thinking it was my SSD, after 3 days of messing round, reinstalls and other stuff it discovered it was 10.2 drivers. installed 10.1 and was super fast boot and shutdown

try 10.1 drivers just to confirm and im sure you wil see the issue go

Fix it takes long time to screen show with certain AMD graphic card when booting up the system.

as for updating bios, there is a couple of ways.1 to do it in windows using software .2 flash the bios through a floppy disc.

sure its only the bios u updating.dont matter what op system u using. but if u update the bios in windows make sure u shut down any programs and dont mess with it untill its updated.its easy to do,i have done it loads of times using software.

have you actually tried what i suggested ?
or you not going to bother
i mean, try a set of drivers v flash the bios ? ? hmmm i know what id try first

lol user i have tried m8.the problem happens on boot, not when windows loads in.the mobo dont recognise it and scans everything else.seems it happens to the nforce chipsets.

downloaded the bios mate their ware two files so I D/L THEM BOTH Global (DLM) and Global, the global file was a bin file not sure how to use that, the global DLM is a appliction that I can run, should I use this one then?
and 2nd will my lose everything on my pc and have to put windows back on.
never done this before so thanks again for you help.

OK did not work. it says fail to reserve dml data in EEPROM please press flash button to try again or exit to abort, (every time),
my bios says their update when connect to the web should i try that way?

have u got the right bios for your board? u could try the net.but i use the bin file and havnt had any trouble that way.if u got a floppy drive u can use that way.just do a search for bios update using floppy disc or i think u can use usb device.
