Hi guys,

I am with Virgin on a 4Mbps line up until a few days ago where I upgraded to a 20Mbps line. However, I never get anything like this, in fact, recently I've been getting 1-2Mbps. Is this temp? Apparently my modem is capable of 20Mbps. The engineer on the phone told me to change some values in the modem and was wondering would this effect me?

I would imagine the cable modem supplied will be capable of 20Mbps. What model is it?

Bottom line is VM has been crap the last few days for me, they're also shaping most people from 4pm onwards regardless of bandwidth used.

What time are you experiencing speed issues, all day?

FWIW, ignoring for a moment the controversial throttling VM are applying, my brother (who has the 20meg package like you) experiences similar problems. He's lucky to get 250K/sec on newsgroup downloads (which should max out his connection) and the most he's seen off his line is 2 megs. So imho this is a "VM is rubbish" rather than a specific line problem.

Hey, at least you're not on VM ADSL - the folks at DSLZoneUK report they're lucky to see speeds twice that of DIAL UP on their ADSL Max from Virgin even with a SYNC of 8128

Another post by you saying VM are throttling people regardless of traffic. Where are you getting this from or are you just a VM hater?

I don't hate VM at all, the bottom line is they're shaping regardless of traffic, I know this from experience, as well as other peoples experience ( check thinkbroadbands VM forum )

Pointless post.
