Slow cursor and scroll speed

Not sure what has happened but my 3ghz 24" iMac has suddenly become sluggish. When trying to write a forum post the cursor is really laggy, especially when holding down a key, for example going left to correct a spelling mistake.

I have also noticed that scrolling up and down a web page is also slow and stuttered when it used to be totally smooth.

I have tried writing text out of Safari in TextEdit and the problem exists there too.

I have restarted, repaired disk permissions and checked the keyboard Key Repeat Rate and this is set to max.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

Backup and run the maintenance scripts in Onyx.

(I think I plug this software too much - but I swear by it)!

Ran all the clean ups and it didn't look like it had worked, but then restarted and all is now back to normal
