Slow data rate between wireless pcs

I have a netgear DG834G V2 router with Netgear WG311 cards in each of the 2 pcs, internet speed is fine but when transfering data between the pcs its really really slow.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
 
well for example it really struggles to copy files anything larger than 800mb ish and when burning an audio cd from one pc over the network in nero at 32x it takes about 17mins, most of the time just placing the audio files into the nero window.
 
sounds about right. nero will cache the audio cd first and then burn it. Wireless is crap with large file transfers, you'll never get the full 54mb speed. What sort of signal strength do you get?
 
Well the pcs are quite close to the router (say 8m away) and the signal is really week, normally about 20%. I've bought a better antenna for the router to see if that will solve the signal strength.
 
any other wireless devices nearby. is the router or the pc close to anything that might be causing interference?
 
No other wireless devices, just the 2 pcs and router. Sometimes my mobile and pda are near the router but not all the time.
 
i've bought and fitted a better aerial to the router, and changed the wireless channel, but it's still only 50% WIFI strength :mad:
 
How slow is slow? I have the v3 one and only get about 2megs wirelessly. Not bothered to try to sort it yet though as its only the wifes laptop!!!
 
i think it says 11mbs but i only get 30k/sec download speed max, and it should be 100% coz its only about 5 metres away from the router!
