Any one else on bt getting really bad download rates as of late, normally get around 700-800kb/s any time of day now a lot of the times i am struggling to get 200kb/s sometimes a lot less.

Heres the post i put on the bt forums if any one wants a read of it

It seems like a lot of other people are having the same issues as well.

Its now 1 am and i have only just started to get a decent download speed.

Could it be my router? i assume if it was my router i wouldnt be getting decent download speeds at all.

It's fairly obvious. You get decent speed at 1am because they turn off they traffic shaping during off-peak hours. Join a better ISP such as Be* or Zen if you want good performance during peak time.

I've always had good performance from them though at peak times.

I just got a download at 22kb/s if its no better by monday i shall call them find out whats going on, if i dont like the answears i am switching :)

i am having the same problems, from 5pm it get slowed down to 0.14mb, after 1am it back to 7mb, it is bt traffic shaping, also i am with sky and because i downloaded MOH game they have also slowed me down, i have a 40gb limit and because i have used 11 gig in two days they thought they would put me on dial up service lol, stuff em, i am getting out while im in the cooling off period and going to give be pro a go

Unfortunately i cant use Be Broadband. For some reason my exchange doesnt allow it :(

So i have to stick with BT's crappy service during peak hours

nonsense. this is the reason BT have so many customers. :/ too many people don't even realise there are zillions of ISPs who can provide a much better service regardless of where you live. just because you can't get BE doesn't mean there aren't other decent ISPs who can supply a better service over your normal BT landline. checkout thinkbroadband forums with a list of your requirements and how much you're prepared to pay...

obviously, getting a decent service over a normal BT connection does cost more and will get you smaller usage allowances then you'd get from an LLU provider such as BE. but such is life. :p

I do realise and know there are other Broadband providers, only that the location i live in there isnt really much choices, especially when i look for unlimited downloads as one of my priorities. If i lived in a better area, then i would be spoilt for choice.

If your exchange (like mine) only offers BT wholesale based products I'm not really sure switching ISP always helps, I'm with fast.co.uk who would probably come under the bracket of 'premium isp' but still see slow speeds sometimes at peak times.

I know it sucks but until the government start doing something (highly doubtful with the cuts) we're stuck with third-world broadband thanks to BT.

I gave be Be broadband a ring and apparantly cannot get it either allthough online it didn't say that, not impressed, i have choice of bt, talktalk and plusnet, none are very appealing:(

No problems here in that regard with BT - been able to use my connection flatout at any time of day lately for a wonder.

Getting nice upload speeds now too :D (~1Mbit/s actual through put).

You're on the Sky package that uses the BT network. It's awful. :)

You have plenty of choice. Check out Zen & IDNet.
