Slow file transfer speed on home network....

My setup is as follows:

PC on top floor running Windows 7
Netbook running Windows XP in lounge on bottom floor
WDTV Live in loung on bottom floor

The PC is connected with some 200 meg homeplugs to my Linksys WAG160N router near the TV (and WDTV Live)
The Netbook connects wirelessly
The WDTV Live is connected via ethernet cable

Anyway, I've managed to get the network set up so all the devices can see each other and access shared folders......but the transfer speed is shocking!

I tried to copy a 10 meg MP3 from the PC upstairs to the netbook and the file transfer information popped up that it was going to take in excess of 6 minutes!?!?!

Does anyone have any idea what might be slowing the whole thing down or is it just the wireless aspect for the Netbook???

Thanks for any help with this guys....

10MB will take 5 and a half minutes to transfer over a 256 Kbps connection so 6mins on yours def means something is wrong, my first thought would be the wireless as I hate it :P

I'm inclined to agree to be honest - I think I might try transferring a file from the PC directly to the WDTV Live which should just utilise the homeplugs as opposed to the wireless and see if thats any quicker!

Any further help is appreciated....

Are the upstairs and downstairs of the house on the same ring main? Homeplugs work best when the sockets are all on the same circuit, they'll work across circuits but generally at a vastly reduced transfer rate.
