I've recently started to get a problem with firefox (version 2.0.0.14) where when I have a couple of tabs open, and one of the pages is loading, the other page(s) i'm looking at become unviewable. The page literally freezes and I cant do a thing.

I've never had this problem before now, really not sure what is causing it as I havent changed anything system wise thats been obvious

any help would be appreciated.

Glad it's not just me then I've recently had exactly the same problems on both my main rig and laptop. Would be glad to hear of a fix.

Willbo and Eriedor - Have you got any common extensions? You could both list your installed extensions.

You could also try a new profile BUT don't delete the current one. If the speed issue remains with the new profile and no extensions then it might be a bigger problem rather than a particular extension causing the problem.

I think I might just of sorted the problem when told about the extensions.

I recently installed the new AVG which comes with a safe search add on which checks links on webpages for any kind of malicious links. I've disable this and Firefox is now working a lot smoother and quicker.

Not sure if any Eriedor has the same problem.

Same as me, both my home rig (Vista) and work (Mac OSX 10.5) do the same, seemingly randomly. :( Only happened in the latest version.

That might explain the Vista one, top result Willbo.

Yup just installed AVG 8, which is no doubt the problem. Thanks.

Bit rubbish now though as disabling the link scanner means AVG willc constantly report an "error", the kinda thing that will bug me!

I use Avast on my PC, although my brother's has AVG 8 Free for trial purposes. Its link scanner does slow down Firefox horribly and I too disabled it. Avast 8 at the moment is the winner for me - works much less intrusively and efficiently for free.

You can get around the error state in AVG easily - leave the link scanner enabled in the actual AVG program, but go to Tools->Addons in Firefox and disable the AVG link scanner there (and that toolbar if so wish!). ;)

Alternatively, uninstall and re-install as the install program gives you the option of including/excluding the link scanner and toolbar.
