Behind you... Naked!
My internet is flawless and has been for yonks now. I cannot fault it thankfully.

However...

If I am downloading torrents, the general browsing gets crippled.

I mean, at the moment, I have a couple of Mandrive ISOs coming down... If I remove them, and have nothing at all, it makes no difference at all... Just having the torrent client running cripples the network.

So, surely its the program?

Im using uTORRENT.

At first, it was perfect, I had absolutely no issues at all and I was getting stuff well over 100 and I was still able to play online games etc but now, Im looking at 5 to 10 seconds for any web page to update???

My router is currently a Linksys WAG354G, Firmware is updated to 1.01.09.04beta

I also have a DLink G604T that I was going to have a play with in case that might help, however, Im sure its software rather than hardware?

Anyway... AS I said, if I use uTorrent to do anything, even just be on and doing nothing, the network practically trundles to a halt... Including my other PCs too! - they get crippled also?

Any clues?

Sounds like it's the fact that you're uploading aswell. Try to cut the upload speed down, it should make a lot of difference.

Yup if I don't throttle my upload to around 15KB/s on my 2MB cable my connection slows to a crawl too.

Can someone explain this in a little more detail. I fully admit to being completely green with regard to Torrents and I dont quite understand that if I have a 4mb cable connection (again flawless and fast usually) then surely my upload is around say 256kb/s or maybe 512. So why cant I cap my upload at say 100kb/s and still be fine? I also dont understand why stuff only downloads at around 50kb/s either as opposed to lots more. But I guess thats a completely different question / knowledge im after.
My connection also crawls also but I wouldnt know where to cap the upload at? Do I have to cap download as well? I still want my torrents to download at an ok speed. When i have mine running I cant even browse web either let alone play a game online lol! Loading OCUK homepage would take about 10 seconds.

Your 4MB cable will have an upload of around 400Kbits per second, which is in reality about 50KBytes per second. So setting your upload in Utorrent to 100KBytes saturates your upload bandwidth entirely.

The same goes for your download, 4Mbit cable allows you around 500Kbytes per second download.

Hmm...

I installed ZoneAlarm earlier on... Bit iffy I think.

Already somehting called ... Oh bugger... What was it now... Hang on...

Ok, True Vector Service.

Its crashed 3 times already?

WTF?

Anyway, it could be just pure luck, but I doubt it... I have that installed instead of the Built-in XP one and I am running utorrent and its bringing MDV2007 at 120K, uploading it at 30K and Im browsing a million times better already... Still a sligh lag, but then the internet being what it is, this could be any number of things not my PC.

Anyway I need to see if there is a cure for this vector thingy and so far, with this Zone Alarm, I think I will stick to it.

I do actually have BlackIce too, but I have no idea where the hell thats gone to, so, I might try to get my Serial etc from wherever I got it from and see about downloading a new version at the same time, butr I have not used it for about 2 years, so I dont know whether they will still help me or not? - I aint paying for it again.

What do you recon to Black Ice vs Zone Alarm?

I have had a bit of a peek on the web and Black Ice does not even get a mention???
