Slow loading of XP

I recently built a new PC and ever since the start the loading of XP takes ages.

It gets to the black XP screen with the timer/loading bar thing and seems to sit there with not much hd activity. After about 30-40seconds the CD/dvd winds up and then the blue XP screen appears for a few more seconds and then in. After that it runs fine. It becomes a pain when I am tweakiing my settings whilst o/c'ing

Can anyone give me guidence of where to look/change?

FYI, I have Asus P5B Deluxe, E6400, HIS XT1900, 2Gb Ram, NEC DVD all with the latest BIOS/Drivers etc.

Thanks

I remember windows 98 use to have a bug like that when it was set to use DHCP on the network card but the card wasn't plugged in or there wasn't a DHCP server to get an IP address from. I know it's unlikely though :)

Have you tried TuneXP ? there's a few settings in there that might help.

Is there any hard disk activity during this delay?

There is some activity but not a lot - i.e its not grinding away!

I haven't tried tunexp but I don't have that much on the h/d yet as it is fairly new.

I have a OS only hd, a programs hd and a data hd with a partition for downloads and the windows paging file. I don't suppose having my setup like this makes a difference?

You might of missed some drivers on install.

How can I check this? Is there a boot log or something I can see?

The Device Manager is showing all ok though I have disabled the 1394 Net Adapter, and the two Marvell Yukon GigabgitEthernet controllers cos I am using wireless.

BTW it takes 1minute 30 secs to get to the desktop
