I'm having some issues with a really slow Orange internet connection.

The router model is a netgear n1500 wirless adsl2+ dng1000 and the connection is Orange 10MB.

These are the line stats - Do these look high?

The router info says downstream is only 516KBPS. Any idea what could be wrong?

Cheers

Judging by your Noise Margin of 16.8 db I would say that they have put you on that speed because of line problems and dropped connections. You'd expect around 3-4 Mbit with a 52db attenuated line. Try plugging into the master socket and see if the Noise Margin improves.

I plugged directly into the master socket and the noise margin dropped to 16.4 and downstream went up to 672kbps.

We are using a telephone extension from the main socket, could ths be causing the slow speed? Would I see much of an improvement if I was to connect directly via ADSL? i.e phone socket > Microfilter > 15M ADSL Cable to the back of the router

Cheers

Plugged the router straight into the master socket without any extensions and these are the new stats.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6688 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.9 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 15.1 db 28.0 db

Connection speed has shot right up, however on a speedtest it still says we're only connecting at 400KBs. Orange have detected a line fault but we're not sure what the fault is at the moment.

It's strange how router settings are saying 6688KBPS yet loading pages is still slow and speed test only says 400KBs.

Cheers

BT Engineer came out today, did line tests and said there wasn't a problem with the line and it looks like orange have capped the speed at 500kbps for some reason.

He told us to call back Orange, considering just switching to another provider.
