Slow PS 3 internet speed

Hi all,
Having bought a PS 3 today I've successfully connected it to the net via a wired 100mb cable- not the black gigbyte cable it was supplied with. I'm suffering from slow PS 3 web surfing speeds. I'm with adsl24 as a web provider on a 8mb package using a netgear dg834g router and via my pc my web surfing is a dream. Via the PS3 it's painfully slow. Is this just down to the slow PS3 browser, demand on their side or the fact I ain't using the gigabyte supplied cable?
Any insight as to the cause of this slow web surfing would be appreciated.

Theres another thread on this somewhere, a handful of others have been having slow speeds on the PS3 though I think they were mostly Virgin Media customers.

It could be a port/NAT related issue. As suggested in many other places, I'd try sticking the PS3 in the DMZ of your router.
