I’ve had the ps3 for couple of years now and can’t believe how slow this ***ker downloads. Every other device in my household linked to the wireless router downloads very quickly but the ps3 enjoys a more leisurely pace. Reminds me of the dial-up era.

Rant over, kick ps3 aside and wait for AvP while playing BF:BC2 demo...
 
I know it started getting stupid slow for me when they added the movies on there I bought one the other week to watch on sunday afternoon dam thing took all day to download and had to watch on monday and this is with 14mb BB.
 
I've noticed A LOT of the speed is relevant to how many people are downloading at once. Whenever I download an update the second it comes out, it can take 2 hours to update. However if I forget and don't do it for a week or so, it'll max out my connection and be done in 5 minutes.
 
yeah, frustrates me sometimes also. Especially when I'm trying to get a "required" software update before I can play a new game, but it keeps timing out after 2% complete and I have to restart it 3 or 4 times before it finally goes though.

That's technology for you. Everything is prone to problems. Take the oldest technology we know of -- the light bulb. They still blow. ;)
 
Strange, my PS3 gets about 25mbps which is roughly the same as a laptop gets on my router (still annoying I cant get the full 50mbps wireless no matter what I do but that is a router/wireless issue)
 
Use PS3_ProxyServer - It's an app that sits on your PC and just change the proxy settings on your PS3 to point to your PC. Works a treat and I actually get very good download speeds through my PS3 when I use this. Without it it's just too painful.

You should be able to find it using google but there are a couple of apps called the same thing but don't work in the same way.

I'll actually host the file up later once I get in from work if anyone wants to try it.

Seems to be mostly people on Virgin Media that suffer with really bad PSN download speeds.
 
I've moved between various ISP's and the only time I've seen it download at anywhere near full speed is now on O2.
 
well just downloaded uncharted 2 demo whats 3gb in about 40 minute, never had issues with download speed on ps3

though i know my friend as issues with download speeds, must be something to do with certain routers/isp's
 
Mine was only fast for a few months after release. These days its extremely slow so some of the bigger demos (1GB+) can take 2 hours for me because it's not making use of my 20mb.

I tend to just let stuff download while I watch a movie or something now.


Initially I thought it was a problem with the wireless connection but having it connected with the ethernet made no difference.

Yep, it's very strange. Even downloading from either store US or UK makes no difference to the speed for me so that rules that out as well.

My PC can completely max out my connection and I've never experienced anything less than the full 20mb (apart from when the site itself is slow)

Im on virgin media
 
My PC and 360 can max my 50mb Virgin Media connection, but the PS3 is painfully slow :(
 
Im running Virgin and getting perfect speeds,
bit of a noob statment but cant harm, if your expecting it to download while playing BF:BC2 your out of luck, network for use only with current running game; there are some that still download while playing but would guess BF would be.
