slow PS3 downloads

I'd love to know if you still got your full speeds last night if you tried downloading BF or AvP.

I managed 100mb in just over 1 hour......

This morning I tried again and did the final 1300MB in about 25 minutes.

So I don't think it's anything to do with virgin. It's just Sony hasn't upgraded their servers/network to cope since the sales of ps3 shot up.

Exactly the same for me (bad company demo though).

Last night was terrible, now I'm watching the % ticking up nice and fast.

I downloaded the BF demo, AVP demo and FF XIII movie in just over two hours last night from 19:00 to 21:15 hours

A little slower than optimal but not bad really

Im on a virgin media 2MB ADSL conection and have very slow download speeds on ps3, I download about 5MB every 60 secs?

Iv opened all ports turned firewall off ect i have NAT type 2 on the playstation conection test and no joy what so ever :(

Online gaming is fine.

When I was using wireless with the PS3 my download speeds would crawl and take forever to get anything.
I'm now using a ethernet cable and i'm maxing out the connection.

Nothing wrong with the signal strength as it is in the same room as the router and all my other wireless devices work fine.

ISP is O2

I generally have no issues with anything in the house (PS3 included). Yet clan mates from pc days have issues.

Its all very odd cause my connection is generally looked down upon by them cause its slower but i never have the "issues" they have. For them it tends to be "super amazing speeds" or "a load of hastle".

I used to get really slow downloads (as in a few kb/s a lot of the time) when using the PS3 either wired OR wirelessly. It worked fine in my old house but just didn't get on with the new place. My laptop downloaded stuff fine and maxed out the connection so it wasn't an internet speed issue.

I did the following and it's the only way I can get my PS3 to download at full speed:

1. Enabled "Internet connection sharing" on my laptop
2. Used a crossover cable and connected the PS3 to the laptop
3. Configured the PS3 to use a wired connection as it was wired to the laptop
4. Connected wireless from my laptop to the access point in the other room

Laptop works fine and so does the PS3 now. I'm assuming it's either the router that doesn't want to work with the PS3 (D-Link one) or the ISP who is somehow specifically blocking stuff or throttling it. I don't see how the ISP can do this though as surely the traffic routing through the laptop makes no difference and it uses the same ports going out?

im sure its a virgin media problem. i had the same problems till i changed ISP

but then VM was much better for ping/latency/online play :(

I was on the VM 10MB connection and I found it to be totally rubbish.
High pinb, lots of latency. If me and my housemate wanted to download anything we'd have to do it when were either asleep or at work, otherwise we couldn't use the net.Not just for gaming,if something was being downloaded I wouldn't even be able to load up a web page on my pc:mad: I'm with o2 now and they're much better.

I get poor downloads on occasions, so usually set them to d/l early mornings.

Why cant we just leave the PS on, and get it to download updates in the background when available, rather than when you change disk" update available" palava, and then have to wait on that before playing it online?
