Just wonderig if anyone can help, we have a Netgear DG834G router and it works very VERY slowly, even though i am connecting via a wire.

The router status says
DownStream Connection Speed 5312 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

and yet i get an almost constant ping of 1000 when trying to play online games, and torrent/p2p downloads go very VERY slowly.
Most of the day they wont go past about 6k per second, our ISP is Eclipse.
Every now and then the speeds will improve in the night, but never in the day.

Any help would be appreciated!

Tried a modem or a different router? There's nothing in what you've posted that says it's the router at fault.
Does a normal download from a known good source (like here) go any faster? Where are you pinging?

This is true, but its definately not the computer, since it works fine at my other house and all the other comps have the same problem, so its either the router or the isp, but the router does say its getting a decent connection so that was my conclusion, can you sggest any tests i can run to perhaps work out what could be going wrong?

That seemed 2 fluctuate a bit, but went at a reasonable speed, from between 50 and 150 kb/s, im aware traffic shaping is most likely hurting the p2p, but the very high pings for all online games r very annoying, and we often have slow speeds browsing the net, honestly, its all over the place!
Sometimes direct downloads go at 200, sometimes at 5, even from the same source.
Confusing to say the least, and definately nowhere near the 500kb/s download speed i would expect from that connection

have you spoken to your isp about this?

that's the first thing i'd do.

if your router is syncing to your exchange at 5312kbps then it suggests things are fine between your router and the exchange.

to make you feel a bit worse i bought a DG834G on saturday and it works a treat. download speeds usually hit around 750 :)
