I've just had City Fibre installed, I went with Octaplus, I'm going wireless as I don't want Cat 5 running everywhere, router down stairs, Pc and Mac upstairs. Mac M1 mini wireless 300Mbs, Windows 10 60Mbs wireless or 80Mbs via homeplug.
Windows is a HP m01-f0027, wireless card built in Realtek Wi-Fi 5 (1x1) and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo which is 802.11ac/abgn. Still the slow download though? I've tried homeplugs and still get the same speed and a new wireless dongle
that claims upto 600 Mbs but even with that, it's 60Mbs?

It's Windows 10, 16GB ram. Fairly new machine with Ryzen 5 3400G chip. My XBox series S downloads at 240Mbs wirelessly, not sure what the issue with the PC is? Any suggestions, connecting it to 5G network, 4G is pretty unusable.

Surely the machine is capeable of downloading quicker than 80Mbs? it's nearly 70% slower than the Mac?

Windows via homeplug:

Windows via wireless:

Mac M1 mini via wireless:

Any help appreciated

Make sure you've got the right WiFi drivers installed - ideally go to the laptop manufacturers site and download them from their driver page.
I've had this exact issue with Windows 11 deciding it knows best and leading me to get 80Mbps tops instead of 500+.

Ensure it's connected to 5GHz. It being 1x1 though is rather limiting, but I would still expect better speeds.

You said you got a new wireless dongle, is it USB by any chance? If you're after speed then ideally you want a PCIe one with a movable external antenna.

Don't bother with home plugs, they never reach even close to their advertised speeds.
