Ive currently got an old style BT socket with no removable bottom half.

Ive had an NT5 faceplate for a while and with me having real bad internet problems im gonna give this a try.

problem is ive got no idea what im doing.

ive just taken the old socket off and currently have it wired as so:

Main line ( i think)

BLACK- 2
GREEN- 5

Extension

ORANGE/WHITE- 4
WHITE/BLUE- 5
ORANGE- 3
BLUE- 2

On the NT5 socket ive got A and B on the main part and on the removable faceplate 2,3,4 and 5

Can anyone tell me which wire goes where on the new socket as ive not a clue.

Also do i need the special tool at all to connect the cables?

Thanks

you need an insertion tool.

Faceplates vary pictures would be more useful than numbers.

A and B are almost certainly where the pair from the street should connect. Usually sockets have colour stickers to tell you where bits go.

on the extension you don't need the orange pair, just the blue.

Ok thanks

I might try at first then to disconnect the 2 orange cables to see if that makes a difference at all.

Thanks

Edit:

So are the 2 orange the bell wires on the extension?

The A and B connections are connected to the main incoming line (Black and Green wires).

The extension wires then connect to the removable face place. Just reconnect 2 and 5 on the extension wiring (Blue and White Blue), theres no point connecting the rest. In fact if you connect 3 (orange - bell wire) it could introduce noise onto your line and drop your sync rate.

And yes you do need a special tool - its called a punch down tool.
