Hey guys,

I've got 52mb Infinity and I get that 99% of the times tested on Speedtest.net, yet on my main wired connected machine, I only get around 29mb... any ideas?

I'm passing through a fairly old 200mb powerline setup but the connection my hub is showing as 1gb.

If it's the powerlines, I'll update them but I'd like to be sure.

Thanks.

All the hub sees is the speed of the connection to the powerline unit it's connected to, not the actual speed to your PC. The manufacturer of your powerlines should have some sort of software to tell you what the current speed is between the powerlines.

Thanks guys! Aren't we overlapping a bit with ethernet speed (powerlines) and my fibre speed? The powerlines seem to be okay in themselves as devices on the network, they're just not giving me my full internet speed quota from the hub :)

^^ if indeed is them holding me back. They must be five years old? Would some 600mb/1gb ones be any better? It's a ten year old house so the internal wiring *should* be okay.

They'll be better. How much better is a lottery. The current adapters are actually working well for that generation of adapter so you've got a decent chance.

The only guaranteed solution is a suitably long network cable.

Have a look at the link posted above to smallnetbuilder. You'll see that the actual throughput available is a smallish fraction of the headline speed.

Ditch the powerlines, use network cable(s).

-No power used
-No plug socket space used up
-Zero downtime
-Better ping
-Full speed

Thanks for the suggestions people! I ended up going for a set of av1200 adaptors. Via the utility it shows my new powerline link speed as 233mbps - sound about right?

My broadband speeds are now spot on :)
