Slow startup after fresh install of windows 7

Hey All,

I done a clean install of windows 7 yesterday on my Crucial M4 ssd. The installation appeared to go fine, how ever when booting up windows would hang on the logo screen for up to a minute or so (not crashed though as I can see the logo moving).

What seems to happen is I hear my hdd make some sort of noise, my keyboard backlight then flashes on and off, followed by the login screen appearing.

I find this odd as the hdd is just for storage and yet these three events always follow themselves each time I have restarted?

I would be very greatful for any help.

Check event viewer for any hard drive errors.

Update your chipset drivers.

Do all windows updates

Thank you for replying.

Checked event viewer can't see any hdd related errors, I have seen some warnings/errors stating that some drivers took longer to load so it slowed down startup, these hadn't come up before.

I removed my 2 extra hdds, leaving just my SSD in and it done the same thing in regards to hanging on the logo, but after this is showed "Please wait..." this stayed on the screen for about 10 minutes so I restarted.

I thought I had installed all updates but some more just popped up that I am installing now. Chipset drivers are up to date (downloaded from gigabyte website yesterday and also this morning just to ensure no corruption.)

How are the drives setup/connected?
RAID?
Same controller?
Installed the latest controller drivers?

SSD as boot drive, two other hdds as storage. Disk 0 is a 3tb hdd, Disk 1 is the 128gb ssd, disk 2 is a 70gb hdd.

No raid.

I believe the same controller (I have am using intel connections, not marvel, is that what you mean?)

Installed latest drivers as far as I am aware, all downloaded from gigabyte. Device manager showing no errors.

Sounds to me that the delay you are getting is the PC talking to Windows about more updates.

After installing the latest updates it booted quite quickly. This will sound silly but I am almost putting off restarting as if i see it is still slow I will be disheartened after the previous good boot haha. Maybe I am not cut out for this custom computer lark!

Going to restart in a second, wish me luck!

Okay guys, just restarted and I didn't even see the windows logo it just went straight to the password entry.

I am not complaining as this is quick, but is it normal?

Hopefully it keeps on loading this quickly! I was "working" on my pc from about midday yesterday until 4 am, then started again at 10am this morning. Will be very glad if this issue is now resolved!

Win7 is awesome & only ever slowed down by Update chat.

Just restarted again to see if it is still resolved; it is now booting faster then ever.

Just hope it stays this way.

Thanks for all the help guys, when it got to nearly 4am this morning I was ready to sell up lol.

EDIT: One thing I have now noticed is that there is a black screen for a few seconds between the windows logo going and the password entry screen. Any ideas what this may be?
