Even though i have disabled all startup items and services (excluding the windows ones), i still get a rather slow boot up time. after the windows logo screen, i get a black screen with the mouse on it for about 5 secs, and then a please wait screen for about 3 secs, and then the welcome screen, which takes ages :(

Specs:
> 2X 250GB Seagate barracuda hdd (7200rpm) about 4 years old
> Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
> 700W Cooler Master PSU
> 8GB KIngston HyperX RAM 1333mhz
> 2 DVD drives
> multi card reader

(the last two are just in case they may possibly be causing the problem)

Buy a new hard drive or something like a 64gb crucial m4 ssd as your boot drive.

New hard drives are a LOT faster than old ones. Ssd, faster again

Slight problem with that... you see, the windows 7 ultimate that i'm running is fake, and so i borrowed the cd from a friend, and then i gave it back, so i can't re-install windows, unless it's the OEM vista disk from my old machine, which:
a) it's vista
b) it only works with my old machine.

is there any way to clone an old hdd, or transfer windows onto a new ssd?
