Slow Steam downloads with fast internet connection?

My connection speed (usually 545-560Mbps)

Steam download speed (can be anywhere between 10Mbps & 200Mbps)

Both measured in Mbps, both on the same PC with wired connection.

Already checked my location server setting, made sure there are no bandwidth limits set and also cleared my download cache on Steam.

Any ideas?

I always just go through the different regions, for example I was downloading yesterday and London and Manchester both gave me about 10mb, Paris gave me 70mb, Frankfurt gave me 90-110mb, but Madrid gave me 493mb.

Then other days it will be Stockholm that gives me the top speed, then another time maybe Berlin, sometimes Iceland and so on, its always a bit of a fiddle, the one constant that I have is that I never get 500mb from London or Manchester, I always have to go further afield to get those speeds

Check your CPU usage. An older CPU can bottleneck the download due to how it unpacks on the fly.

Disk speed can make a difference too, if you are installing to a mechanical drive that's fairly full and/or fragmented then it might not be able to handle 60MB/sec write. You'd likely see that issue with other download sources too however.

Thanks but my Steam Library is on an NVME M.2 drive so should be ok.

Same here, about 1/6 th of my line speed I get for downloads on Steam, interesting what tomstone said though, will look at Steam download locations from now on.

I'm pretty sure I've seen high 400's before when downloading from Steam but lately it's gone slow. Origin is the worst though, it's always slow no matter how fast my connection is.

I get the opposite, Manchester and London absolutely never reach 500mb for me, but several places around Europe do hit 500mb for me, I've had particular success with Madrid, Stockholm, Oslo and at times Paris and Frankfurt. I can almost always get to between 400 and 500 on at least 1 of those.

On 900Mb here, Manchester/London will max out around 600Mb but if I change to Belgium or similar, I can see almost full speed. This was also true when I only had a 25Mb connection.

Strange how different people's experiences are. Personally I've always got full speed from Origin, it's been years since I didn't with Steam, but Microsoft Store is terrible and more often than not gives sub-optimal speeds.
