Slow to open photos over the network ??

Hi,

I have Windows Home Server on a Gb network. On all PC's it seems really slow to open files. I'd say average transfer rate I get when transferring large file is about 50 - 60 mb/sec.

The photos are on average 4.5 mb each, so not huge but can take what seems to be about 4 - 5 seconds to open each picture.

Any way to speed this up ? As soon as they are copied locally it is much quicker !!

Windows 7 on the client machines btw.

You tried it with the AV turned off? Just wondering if that's responsible for it slow over network but OK locally.

Try this:

Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn On/Off Windows Features > and uncheck "Remote Differential Compression" ok that, reboot as normal, and then test again

I had this issue with NOD32 on my WHS - there are recommended config changes on thier KB if running NOD on a server that once applied fixed my issue
