Hi,

I have a Seagate 500Gb portable hard drive. When I plug it in using XP, it works as normal but when I plug in into my Windows 7 PC, it takes a long time to load files, to copy to or from the disk or to save a file on the disk. These are not large files, the one's I've been having trouble with recently are small word and excel documents. The documents themselves open ok with XP as well.
Can anyone help please,

Thanks

Plug the drive into the motherboard USB ports (if your not already) and see if this helps.

Let us know it might be an issue with the case USB ports!

I've plugged it into the usb ports at the back and it's fine so it was the usb ports at the front causing the problem That's the problem with buying a 14 quid case I suppose.

I've just had the slow to save thing happen again even when it's plugged into the back usb port then saw that the light on the drive was off. It looks like some Seagate drives have an auto sleep thing and when it's sleeping it takes a little bit of time to spin back up which would explain the slowness.
