slow uploads all of a sudden

Hi all,

I'm on FTTP via openreach, with vodafone. I don't use their router. I've noticed over the last few days uploads have been atrociously slow. Downloads are fine, but good upload speeds are important especially on days I'm working from home.

Spoke to vodafone, and obviously because I'm not using their router they didn't want to entertain anything to do with my issues. So I plugged their router in - same issue, fast download crap upload.

They say they don't guarantee upload speeds, but the fact is I'm barely getting 5mbps at the moment. They just didn't care.

They got me to reboot the router, the ONT box etc... of course.

Anyone any ideas why the uploads would be all of a sudden so slow?

Have you reset your ONT?

Have you plugged your PC/laptop directly into the ONT and tested?

Does appear to be an ISP issue, but GLHF getting Vodafone to do anything (one of the reasons I personally avoid them like the plague).

I'm with them because I got a massive discount - they're horrible to deal with. I'll try plugging my laptop into the ONT in a min. Not that Vodafone will do anything about it - they said they don't guarantee uploads.

Gee thanks. That's helpful.

If you're working from home then it's worth having a decent ISP, regardless of the cost. Most broadband costs is insignificant compared to the cost of commuting.

Have you also tried via VPN?

I thankfully only wfh 2 days a week. The service has been super reliable until the last week or so as you can see from the screenshots.

Then just lie. Download massive archives (Linux torrents) etc when they tell you to do speed tests on their end. All of a sudden the download speed is under their threshold and an Openreach engineer gets called to look at the problem and you can play dumb but mention the upload problem.

I think I may just have to do that - because getting mugged off by their 1st line support is really not helpful.
