Am i right in thinking 2mb/s is slow for usb2?

I have tried using both the front panel ports and the motherboard ports but both run @ 2mb/s when ftp'ing to an external drive.

Motherboard is a MSI k9agm2 and the mainboard details are here:

I've been trying to update the usb drivers but i cant seem to find them, also this is how the usb shapres up in the device manager:

any ideas peeps?

Is that 2mb/s or 2MB/s....if the latter then:

Depends on the device.

I have a supposed USB2.0 MP3 player that transfers tracks at ~700KB/s to it, but I also have an external hard drive that can be anywhere from 22MB/s -> 35MB/s.

(Both of those are writing speeds, not reading!)

Why exactly are you FTP'ing to the drive?

I just wanted a visual reference as to the actual throughput speed.

HDTach shows it as connecting via USB 1.1 with an avg read of 32.0MB/s but no write test.

It should read USB 2.0 surely?

ignore hdtach saying it's 1.1. it's connecting as usb2 - the 32mb/s read speeds tell you that. that's pretty much all you'll get out of usb2... :)

but 2MB/s write speed?

oops. didn't read the thread properly. :p

but usb2 is still enabled and working because of the read speeds - and your device manager shows the word "enhanced" - you only get that with usb2..... so for the 2mb/s write speeds, sorry i don't know.... :o

btw: where are you getting the 2mb/s reading from?

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I have my laptop on a dual boot of XP and Ubuntu. The USB transfer speeds are approximately 5 times faster on Ubuntu.
