Hi all,

So obviously wifi is slower than Ethernet. I'm on a 300/60 fibre connection and have tried various routers including s tenda ac1900, ASUS ac87u 2400 and dlink ac3200 router.

I've seen people with lesser routers getting 200mbps across wifi on iPhone 6s phones.

I can't get above 101mbps on an iPhone 7 plus which I know is capable of maxing out my connection.

I'm the only one in radius who is on the 5ghz banding and have tried various channels and have tried being right next to the router.

Any ideas on getting faster wifi speeds?

Thanks.

Wifi is a dark art and actually very complex once you start digging into it. For example, you won't tend to get the best speeds close to the router as the signal will effectively drown out and interfere with itself. What are your settings on the router and device?

A high speed (eg AC1900) AP with several external MIMO antennae, 80MHz channel widths, beamforming and a higher power output will obviously tend to give a better result than a lower speed device with only one or two internal antennae, low power and 20MHz or 40MHz channel widths. All assuming a capable client... That said it can vary, for example a medium power level and 40MHz channel widths can be more stable and result in higher overall throughput. Wired is so much easier. :p

There's a sticky at the top of this sub-forum with some helpful wifi info.
