what can cause slow win7 bootup times ?
ive just used my upgrade disk and realised its uber slow bootup
vista was about 40 seconds with win7 in knocking on 74secs
any suggestions ?

Try cleaning the registry, doing a defragment etc - there'll be a ton of random files all over the place after the upgrade.

Obviously, doing a fresh install would also help...

It could be that that updates are occuring. Give it a week and see how things go. If it still continues after then, then perform a full install, with a quick format on the windows partition.

I get this but I got told it coul be low voltages in the bios, been tweaking with them and sitll no lucky, trying to defrag now, I also noticed that the samsung F3 drive is 2x faster than my current hard drive, hopefully buying this may speed the boot process up to as well as loading games quicker.

One more thing.... do you have the background set to just a plain Black image... this used to cause a slow logon screen for a lot of users when W7 was first released..

well ive just taken onboard leezy's advice ( thanks )
enables 4 cores as appose to one, and ive disables loads of stuff at startup, printer s/w, itunes, google updates etc etc, and its a lot faster
thanks for help so far

Nice one.. we learn something new every day. I'm confused as to why this was on in the first place?? Anyway, my apologies to bastic

Dunno, but seems an issue with gigabyte mobos I think, had it happend in 3 of them for me. I knew it's something with HDD since it's literally hanging on loading screen like it was searching for something.

Any chance the OP has a GA mobo as well?

Again, I don't know as much about this as you so I have no idea why exactly it's like that but if it works for some then I guess it's worth checking !
