Hi all,

I recently got an Asus WL-500G wireless router, 54Mbps, and an Asus Wireless PCI card.

This was to allow me to connect my old XP machine upstairs. Sadly though it says excellent connection, it is painfully slow.

Anyone got tips on increasing the speed, It's fast enough when I bring it downstairs and wire it to the router.

I am not too sure how good the router is, but my main reason for getting it was due to it having two USB ports for adding an external hard drive and printer for sharing at home. Not much use if I cannot enjoy using the internet though.

Cheers all,

Change wireless channel to 3 or 8, encryption type on the router - make sure your wireless drivers are upto date on your machine also.

If its slow transferring files, the normal speeds for 54Mb assuming a good signal would be about 2.5MB/s over the wireless, this then degrades depending on signal strength, connection speed and encryption.
