Slow wireless help

Im on the NTL 10mb package and when i use my internet connection via the wired LAN ports on my router i get a steady 1mb/sec. When i use wireless i get anything from 500kb/s - 700kb/s max. I've tried 3 different routers, 3 different wireless adapters and also tried every channel from 1 -11. No joy. Any ideas welcome !!

What standard is your wireless? If it is 802.11b (ie, 11Mbit) then that's the best you're gonna get.

Even for 802.11g, that's very slow. What signal strength and connection speed are indicated?

Try disabling any security and see if that makes any difference. Also check for any new firmware for your AP.

Update - This problem ONLY occurs in Windows XP. I just installed Suse on one of the PC's which had the problem and that works perfectly. Boot the same PC back into windows....problem starts.
