I have just built a pc with the following:-

Abit IP35
E2180 (still running at 2Ghz but will be oced)
Geil ULL 6400 2Gb (still to install another 2Gb)
Seagate 250Gb
Ocuk 3850 512Mb
Corsair HX520

First thing I did was increase the voltage to 2.10 on advice from here as it wouldn't post initially. Then updated the BIOS to fix the double boot issue.

Its taking ages when loading XP Pro, I get the first black background with XP logo and progress bar for about 3 seconds then the screen goes blank for an eternity, the hdd light barely flashes during this point, then after 20-30 seconds it shows the blue "Logging on" screen" and this takes a further 10 seconds before finally loading the desktop.

All I have done so far is install the Abit mobo drivers, and ATI drivers, and windows updates. The delay has been there before and after these installs.

Can anyone give some pointers on why it may be taking so long?
My 4+yrs old AMD XP2000 is faster in loading!

Ok I think I've figured out the problem. I disabled the IDE in BIOS running NEC DVDRW and ancient Pioneer 106. Now the loading is superfast easily within 10 seconds as a guesstimate.

Will try disabling the 106 and see if it still affects the load times with my NEC, otherwise I will need to be a SATA version.

So much for keeping within budget.
