Does your car feel slower over time?

I've had the Leon Cupra R 225 for 4 months now. At first it felt like a furious animal. Lately it still feels fast but not as agressive as before. I don't think there is anything technically wrong with the car, I think its just me getting used to what it can do performance wise.

If you have a performance car, due to familiarity do you feel like it gets slower over time? Whats the solution? Remap? :D

At this rate I can see myself never wanting to own a non-performance car again!! If I have to constantly upgrade to get my speed "thrill" I'll have to have a Ferrari one day !!

:D

remap yes, if you want to scare yourself in the leon take it cross country in a b road blast, nothing like coming of a tight corner and swallowing up a short straight before running into another corner at less than 70mph but still feels as hairy as hell.

Drive something crap like a Fiesta for a couple of weeks, your car will then feel like the fire breathing monster you had when you first got it ;)

You adjust to the performance and get used to it. The best cure for this is to spend a few days driving a crap car. Yours wheel feel like an animal all over again when you get back in it.

Remap? They're for diesels.

Get an electronic boost controller. Then you can set it up with 2 settings. 1 for normal sedate driving and another for when you want to give it some beans. That way when you want the performance, it feels quicker than 'normal'.

You dont know about vag management then?
Remaps are the way forward and the likes of a revo stage 2 map with a few choice mods then get hold of an sps3 device then tune away til your heart is contented. Boost controllers dont really work on the 20vt engine as to up the boost and fuel you need to up the torque requests instead, its a technical bugger of an engine that is very rewarding when done. Can you tell ive got one too??? :D

Right, I've booked a go in the wifes Punto when I take it for its MOT on Friday. That should "cure" me :D

I'm definately going to get a remap one day for it and do some choice mods (new DV, turbo back exhaust system as a minimum). I'm going to insist since her indoors won't let me buy a motorbike :(

Next year.........oh yes....... :D

I cant wait

driving a Purg 206 1.4 at the mo for the last 2 weeks now, cant wait to ge back into my 200SX .... gosh this feels dead slow :(

The 20vt engine is complex electronically, on older jap wagons you just plonk in a boost ontroller and tweak it, on these engines you cant do that, there are loads of sensors and solenoids that all work together , maf, map, lambda,n75 etc
If you ever get a chance to play with lemmiwinks you can turn the turbo scaling down to the point (around 30% of 100%) the car barely idles, at 50% its a little slower than standard and boost comes on very slowly, turn it up to 85% for a while and before long youre begging to reset it to the full whack. Between the management and drivebywire the car is very electronic and companies tuning them have invested a lot of money, if it was as simple as a boost controller they would have gone bust a long time ago.

sounds like your getting used to the power. same thing happened with me and the scooby, although it did seem to get slower and slower over time. then noticed the clutch had nackerd out and kept slipping like mad. :p

the 6.x seconds on a cupra r/remapped cupra is actually a bit of a misdirector. The leon is a very sharp car once moving and the only thing that lets it down is traction in 1st and 2nd gear in the dry. Saying that the 2.8 v6 4wd leon on the continent is a different beast altogether when forced induction is added.

You just get used to it. It's another reason I 'opted out' of the power game. It goes like this: Up the power, fun for 5 minutes, get bored. Up the power some more, fun for 5 minutes, get bored. Before you know it you have spent thousands, and have a car that is less reliable, more expensive to run, and isn't actually any more fun than when you first got it, because you have got used to it all over again.

Meh, maybe I'm just getting old :o

If you want mods that make a real, usable everyday difference concentrate on chassis and brake upgrades. That's where my attention is now focused.

.

Not really, just maybe wiser?

I have been thinking the same things recently. However, I spend most of my time on our back roads trying to avoid the locust-like plague of lycra clad cyclists, usually riding side by side, around every blind corner, so I even find handling to be less of an issue as you simply can't go around a corner fast anyway or you'll knock another Chris Boardman wannabe into the hedge at every turn.

I'm finding that I barely use the power that I have. When I find a clear stretch of road and can give it some beans I get the grins, but it hardly lasts as 2 minutes later I'll be approaching a speed camera, or risking killing a cyclist, or a horse rider or stuck behind a 40mpher or whatever.

I was thinking of buying a Cerbera, XKR, 3200 or something, but even then I find myself thinking "when would I get to use a car like that as anything other than mere transport". It would cost the earth to run, which is fine when you enjoy the car, but not so much when it rarely gets to more than 60mph (there is a half mile stretch of NSL on my way to work, but apart from that, it is 40/30mph all the way).

Oh, I don't know, but lately I don't feel like I get much ROI in the car. I've been thinking more and more about a RWYB special to take to the pod or something to get the thrill of the power, but spending money on the daily drive is getting pointless.
