So this is going to be my first build which i have wanted to do for many years, but never had the money, and i still don't (lol) but i am going to do it anyway.

I am going to be buying one component a month , hopefully more :) , but to begin with i thought i would start with the case.

The ones i am liking the look of is the haf 932 and the haf x. But being a complete novice to this am not sure if these are good. My ideal end system will have sli/crossfire gpu and water cooling.

What do you guys think?:D

HAF X would be the case to go for as it is newer with more features :)

I think this thread would be better suited in general hardware and would get more attention. Plus you will get top advice from fellow ocukers and they get direct you to better choices :)

Perhaps Mod can move this thread to general hardware

One component a month? Strongly suggest sticking the money in the bank personally! By the time you collect everything, it'll be out of date.

out of date it maybe but unless im looking at getting very high end equipment when i buy it wont really make a difference.

Thanks for the advice , maybe the mods can move the thread and i can do a proper build thread when i got it all :)

Yeah, I would do that.

Means you can get the most out of warrentys and maybe get more value for money later on as new things release.

I couldn't even live with the thought of having a possible DOA CPU sitting in its box for months:rolleyes:

Nothing wrong with buying the basics one at a time such as the case, power supply, fans, hard drive/SSD and even the ram since anything out at the moment will use DDR3. CPU, motherboard and graphics card I would buy last so you can get the best for your money at the time! :)

Ok, but start with things that arent timing critical, id buy like this:

start: case, psu, heatsink, fans

finish: cpu, mobo, gfx

Do what i do with OcUK get everything you want with Hitachi Capital through the OcUk checkout and choose buy now pay in 12 months and then just smash the balance off when ever you want. I built my rig this way last october last year and paid the full balance in Jan just gone. Then i wanted a few more bits last month so did the same again and ill probably just smash the balance off next month. I do it this way so i dont have to wait while i save the cash.

Don't listen to the guys telling you it will be out of date.

Technically it will be, but I'm using a Q6600 which is "ancient" in hardware terms and DDR 2 Ram. I also have a 6870 graphics card, my pc is not a slouch in all but the most demanding (crysis on max, metro 2033 on max) games.

I was going to do exactly what you are proposing but in the end decided to make the purchase by transferring the exact cost of a component into a savings account each month.

No only does it mean you will get better value for money when you have "bought" all of our bits but if something happens, car breaks down, dog needs vet treatment, whatever you have some money rather than a case, HDD and a CPU.
