Hi there, my new gfx card which is a nice 8800gt is great but although it has a Zalman heatsink is still louder than the rest of my pc, is there anyway i can slow it down as i can use software without a 3pin fan.

Cut the red wire and solder a resistor between it. Depending on what voltage you want you should check the resitance of the fan. Probably just best to add a 150 Ohm resistor. 150 colours are gold brown green brown.

There are some adaptors around to connect a small fan header to a Molex.

The yellow cable on the Molex is 12volts, the red is 5 volts and the black(s) are 0v (or return).

If you connect the fan motor red wire to the yellow 12v lead and the fan motor black to the (red) 5v cable on a spare Molex, it will run on 7 volts (12-5), so it will be quieter, but you will have to make your own adaptor or 'cut and shut' the cable. Of course it will run slower and may not cool so effectively.
