Im currently tweaking my fan speeds in speedfan to try and get a nice noise/performance balance. Is it safe to use speedfan to control the CPU fan? At the moment im testing the fan at 80%, which is producing 36degrees idle and about 43degrees under load. Whats the maximum safe idle and load temperatures you lot would go up to? Im currently running a Winchester 3000 in a Antec P180, with a Artic Freezer 64 pro HSF.

Keep your cpu load temps <55 and your ok.

You can set speedfan up to regulate the fan speed within limits, so set it to start the fan at 30% ish and hit max speed at about 50 degrees.

How do you get it to regulate temps in speedfan?
-Go to configure.
-Go to speeds, select a speed and set a min and max, can be 0 and 100 if you want.
-Tick 'automatically variated'.
-Then go to fans and tick one ones you will want to use.
-Go to temperatures, tick the temperatures you want to use and select a desired and warning temperature.
-Then click on the + to select a corresponding speed/fan to be controlled by that temperature.
-Close configure and tick automatic fan speed in the main window.

If this doesn't work, go to configure, advanced, and select your monitoring chip. Select software controlled under PWM 1,2 etc.

Speedfan is a great program but you need to fiddle about with it a bit to get it working how you want.

As i said, i haven't figured out how to get it to remember my desired temperatures yet.
