Seeing as I can't really afford a digital SLR, can someone point me in the right direction for a normal half decent SLR that I can practice with please. The only camera's I've ever used have been fully auto film camera's and fully auto digital but want to learn how to take decent shots.

Thanks

Might be cheaper in the long run to get a cheaper d-slr or maybe even a compact with manual settings? The cost of film and developing will all add up! Just a few things to consider if you haven't already :)

Yeah maybe an intermediate camera like the Panasonic FZ7 or Sony DSC-H1 might do the trick.

Damn, never thought of that. Will have a looksie around. Where's the best place to look for them?

What's your budget? If your sure you want a DSLR at some point your better getting into now, rather then losing money buying and selling an intermediate.

Scrimp and save and get yourself a nice canon 300d second hand! Some great bargins to be had about the place for a very nice camera.

If you do decide on your original idea, I am using the Minolta dynax 500, its a very easy to use camera. Easy film loading, auto iso, and full manual settings. The lens are relatively cheap, i find it to be a very nice camera.
My mate has a canon EOS300 i think thats pretty good, think the lenses are inter changable with canon Dslrs too.

I use a couple of EOS 5s, which are fantastic bodies, and can be had for about a ton on ebay. If you buy a film body, then get one of the same brand as you would digital, as you'll be able to use your existing glass when you upgrade.
