Many thanks,

This system is quite a bit better, dual core cpu, nforce based motherboard (OC better), faster graphics and only £30 more

Cool, thanks chap. What's the advantage of the Dual Core proc' and the Gfx card you advised? I know the 7600 it runs at 560 instead of 400mhz, but other than that?
If there's gonna be a considerable noticable difference, then I'll consider that spec...

Pete.

The graphics card is faster by about 25% (ignore clock speeds really...), diferent archtecture so it doesnt make a huge amount of diference. Plus it supports stuff like HDR etc. The CPU is far more future proof, faster in photoshop, multitasking, newer games such as UT2007 etc.

lol, i agree :p

the system you speced for yourself, rdfcpete, isnt really necessary, you wont be needing 2GB's of ram as 1 is sufficent, the 3500 isnt the best pic of the bunch as i have been told, and even if that gfx has the 512MB is slower then most other X800 (for instance the XT) and is rather overpriced in my opinion.

Raikiri's rig is a much better bet and as he said will last you a hell of a lot longer.

Hehe, Will do mate, as long as it leaves me plenty of petrol money for the Clio ;)

Ok cool, cheers. I think Raikiri's steals it. So the 512 doesn't make a bit of difference really then, even if it runs at 120mhz or so C/speed lower?
And no, I definately want 2Gb of Ram :) Workstation at work has 1gb, and there's not much that catches it out so 2Gb should last me that bit longer imo.

Fair enough then :p

yer theres no need for 512MB on a slow card, where as the 7600GT is all that you will need for some time, the GT's are equivalent to the XT (correct me if im wrong) and so the 7600GT 256MB *Should be* as good as if not better then the X800GTO and its a lot cheaper

whatever the case dont get a sempron, they suck in everything but general use, by just buying an athlon 64 instead, ull at least be able to play almost all games on medium or low settings.

with a system like the one Raikiri specced there shouldnt be much he cant play on high.

should even give FEAR a run for its money :p

Lol, thats the thing dude, just looking to play reasonably undemanding games such as the original UT, MOHAA, CS, Footy Manager 2006 and few racing sims. Fear, Doom 3, HL2, Far Cry etc etc... I'm not really worried about, and they're not really my sorta games (:o :p) so that probably looks like more than I need which is cool.

However, I do like a good and realistic sky on FS 2004 though :p...

Thanks,

Pete.

Guys,

Ordered that spec.
Rig sitting on my bedroom floor :(

PSU is dead, so what do I need as a suitable replacement?

Wanna spend as little as possible. Could I claim a replacement from OCUK for free as I'm not sure if it was dead on delivery, and probably couldn't prove that?
What wattage and voltage would I need to suitable power that mobo?
500W and 230V?

Thanks,

Pete.

Oh well,

Since that last post, I've managed to kill my old ATA which no longer reads due to me frigging around trying to get the machine working after purchasing a new PSU, and it seems to have come to light that now the SATA drive is dead also, and to do this I simply changed the serial to sata cable that it was connected to.

Really wish I hadn't of got this now tbh. Just been a bag of bad luck for some reason. Could I return it? Reasons would be Sata seems dead and had to replace the PSU because that had no power at all
I did call up support for the PSU issue, but they didn't relaly want to know.

So my questions would be, could I swap the components for a shuttle system, which was always reliable for me?
And what's the best shuttle option to go for, as similar spec to that above please?

Thanks,

Pete.

I can play with my sempron 2Ghz with games easily on Med-High options without experiencing ANY lag
