hey all not sure if this will be in the correct place on the forums but its to do with cooling so im just after a little but of advise :).

Im looking to buy a socket 2011 MB and i7 processor, so ill need a heat-sink to go with it.

my case isn't huge so im short on a space inside as i have my gfx card which is rather big,

so to my question i need a good heat-sink that will do the job and cool my system while obviously fitting the socket and not being to big, i did have a few in mind but just wanted to know your guys thoughts and opinions before i commit to buying one :)

Thanks for your time reading this :)

was looking at doing a full revamp off my pc but things came up so just getting the core parts for a new 1 atm then ill build upon it later.

So just looking for a heat sink taht will fit on my processor so it works haha but i dnt want 1 thats just going to last a lil wile as i wont be changing it agen for a few years :P.

thanks for you suggestions i like the look of the SE14 dimensions look great to me.

ideally i need a new case but dont have the pennies haha xD

just quickly measured roughly and my case width = 190mm and from the motherboard to side is around 160-170mm hope that helps :) .. can get some pics if you guys would think they wud be useful :)

Pics won't hurt.
Really need a more accurate measurement than 160-170mm. Reason is top of CPU is 8mm above motherboard and most tower coolers are 160mm or more. If we can use 160mm tall coolers there are some really great coolers for reasonable money.. and some very good coolers for even less. :D

would be better if you told us what case motherboard and ram you have?

thats my ram :)

lemme just try and get a more accurate one for you then :) hehe

from my current mb its 170mm from mb to cover but im ordering a new mb so i cnt be sure if they will sit the same distance from the base of the case :/. i was looking at getting a intel bundle setup from OC but i dnt really want any ram and i want to keep to the GIGBYTE mb's :)

With 170mm measured we have 162mm CPU clearance. Motherboards are all about the same thickness so no worries. This means we can safely use coolers 160mm tall.

Starting with a list of some of the best coolers I underlined the ones that will fit.
Cooler size comparison (Width x Depth x Height looking from front of case with motherboard laying flat)

*cooler base to bottom fin. (add 8mm for motherboard to bottom fin.)
**fins are at 3 different levels

We can add many additional coolers:
Macho HE-02 all models
Alpenfohn Matterhorn all models
Macho 120
True Spirit 120 & 120M
PH-TC12DX
NH-U12S

And even more.

Now, cooling cost money, how cool do you want to be? :D

For just the cooler i have around £60 to spend but cud go to around £80 :) im just out atm but will look at ur suggestions sn as not put for long :) x

i like the look of them and tehy dont seem very big im just unsure how they would sit inside my case as uive only ever used normal heat sinks nut im wanted to future proof :P
