Looking for a small inexpensive air compressor for occasional use for cleaning dust and crud from customer machines, proper compressors are quite expensive but wondered if anything existed on a smaller scale? Maybe this is a bit ridiculous to even suggest but maybe something usb powered?

USB won't be powerful enough. Try looking for air bed pumps. I got one from Argos a few years ago for £20 iirc, still going strong and producing powerful air streams with the nozzle's included.

Just bought one at work - a lot more convenient than the compressor that we had (which whilst small, was still not convenient to move around), and compared to cans of compressed air, pays for itself relatively quickly.

Another vote for this.

They've not got quite the initial punch of compressed air but I've found I clean the PC more regularly so the dust build up isn't as bad - and therefore easier to clean/clear. Very simple to give it a quick blast - and as Armageus mentioned it pays for itself very quickly if used regularly.

I use a cheap compressor at work with a 10m line. Go outside with the PC and blast away making sure you hold the fans while doing it. I would pay the extra for a small compressor at home rather than one of these. It would be less portable but how difficult is it to unplug a pc and take it downstairs? Then you also have the versatility of using it to pump up car tyres, use air tools etc.

If cost is an issue for you, you can try this one too https://www.itdusters.com/product/compucleaner/ it's a little bit cheaper as well as underpowered than the expert version but gets the job done. I use it to clean my car seats too ;)

only thing with a compressor you need to watch for moisture in the tank this can cause the compressed air to have a mist of water in it. ideally you need a good quality water trap.

Ive got a Kirby hover its old but works as good as new and can also be set up to blow.. its great for blowing out a system.
