Hello,

We have a new arrival on the way and as a result shortly I will need to move all of my PCs/Gear to our dinning room which is where most of the kids toys are (Kids are 2 and 5 months)

I really need a decent enclosed rack where I can store my...

- Main Desktop PC (Antec Solo II)
- Server (HP Microserver NL40, on 24/7)
- Rack Mountable HP Switch (Half depth)

I needs to have a door and a lock, to keep the kids out :) I'm not looking for something very big. I've Looked in the "Show us your racks thread" I see a number of nice looking small racks but without a door.

As I work in IT I'm always working on another kit so may well need to be placed in the rack at times.

I've have a quick scout around on the net but can't seem to find anything suitable. All either to big or do not have a door.

Any advice?

Thanks, Mark.

I'd have thought it best to just buy a lockable half height cupboard with a mid shelf and then drill out any holes you might need for cables and airflow. The kind of thing you find lying in the corner of every office.

Purely as an example to illustrate what I mean:

It has the advantage of looking a little less out of place in the dining room.

Have a search around for AV equipment racks.

The other advantage with these is that they usually have quieter, wife friendly fans.

Another option just for your own stuff is network cabinets.

Make sure you get one of decent depth though if you plan to put business servers in it as most are quite long. I have a 1000mm depth on my rack which fits most servers but there is not that much room around the back. Network cabinets are usually also too short for standard depth servers.
