Small Form Factor / Shuttle PCs for gaming?

Basically, I have an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop that I use for everything at the moment. It can handle most games pretty well- I'm not overly bothered about having everything on max settings.

However, it's overheating and crashing despite good care because I've realised I've run it into the ground by using it as a gaming PC.

So I want to look for a machine that is more capable of sustained gaming, but to be honest I'm not happy with the size of normal PCs (for reasons such as portability and storage which are important to me), so I'm interested to see if there are smaller form PCs available that will make for a decent gaming machine.

Not looking for anything special, just something that will let me run most modern games and last me a couple of years but it won't overheat or let me down within a few months of use like a laptop can and has. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I suppose a price range maximum of £500 is what I'm looking for, but like I say I don't need a super-high res monster, just something that can handle modern games on good settings.

What sized display and resolution would you be playing with?

Depending on your expectations I'd say the limited space of that case prevents you using more mainstream to high end graphics card for gaming. Unless the 6770 is still considered a capable card.

Nothing special on the monitor front, something like a 20-22 inch: 1920x1080 is the max resolution but I'm happy to go lower. I would like something higher than 768 in height though.

Feel free to take out the SSD and upgrade one of the components such as the CPU or GFX. Shame you won't get the free delivery though. That case fits a full sized GFX easily.

I built a very similar system but with a 550W version of that PSU and my ASUS graphics card was £90 at the time (now £130!). Handles Diablo 3, WoW, TERA, SWTOR and Mass Effect 3 fine although I'm not sure about 'a few years'. Playing on a 22" monitor at 1920x1080.
