a friend wants a gaming laptop but for his budget I'm sure we can get him a small form cube type rig...he has a budget of 1500 quid

I'm not 100 on small form PC's...can some of you demons come up with a cracking rig for the spec that will play the latest games but it has to be small...only thing is size needs to be as small as possible

You could go with an Silverstone SG05 based build but OcUK do not stock the the 450W PSU that Silverstone also make for this case.

The main issue with the SG05 is that the PSU has to act as the system exhaust and there is very little space in the case. Fitting longer graphics cards such as the HD5870 would be an issue. The Silverstone SG01 and SG02 also use the PSU as a system exhaust too.

If you want to get the parts off OcUK I would look at one of the following builds:

Build One

Lian Li PC-Q08B ~ £93

Zotac H55-ITX ~ £109

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-004-ZT&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1436

There is a better DFI P55 motherboard which is not sold by OcUK.

Intel Core i7 860 2.80GHz ~ £245

4GB low latency 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £90

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-180-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler ~ £24

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-027-SY&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB ~ £58

Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB ~ £169

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-004-IN

Seasonic X-650 ~ £125

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-013-SS

This PSU has fully modular cabling unlike most modular PSUs which have a few hardwired cables.

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB ~ £340

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-218-SP

Akasa Dual 2.5" SSD/HDD Mounting Kit ~ £6

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-059-AK&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=72

Pioneer SATA DVD rewriter ~ £19

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-069-PO&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951

Windows 7 Retail ~ £95

The total comes to around £1367 excluding delivery.

Build Two

Silverstone Sugo SG01B-F ~ £80

Asus Maximus III Gene ~ £155

Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler ~ £24

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-027-SY&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB ~ £58

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA

Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB ~ £169

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-004-IN

Corsair HX 750W ~ £124

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084

The Seasonic X-650 runs passively at low loads so it is not suitable for this build.

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB ~ £340

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-218-SP

Akasa Dual 2.5" SSD/HDD Mounting Kit ~ £6

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-059-AK&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=72

Pioneer SATA DVD rewriter ~ £19

Windows 7 Retail ~ £95

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-124-MS

The total comes to around £1400.

An alternate build would be an SG05 or SG06 with the 450W PSU. I would get the DFI P55 motherboard, a Core i7 860 and an HD5850 1GB.

I did another build in post 2 with the SG01 case too.

I would check the dimensions of the following cases to see which is the biggest ones that your friend would consider:

Silverstone SG05 or SG06

http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_spec.php?pno=sg05&area=usa

Silverstone SG03 and SG04

http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_spec.php?pno=sg03&area=usa

Silverstone SG01 and SG02

http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?pno=sg01

Lian Li PC Q08

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/produc...480&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=63&g=spec

There are also mATX socket 1366 based motherboards too but the Core i7 920 and 930 will be harder to cool in a SFF case.

However the main issue with socket 1156 is that it is EOL in Q1 2011 it seems.
