small laptop screen problem

Hi I have a old Toshiba Satellite 4090CDS. Its a very reliable and robust laptop although rather slow nowadays.

I have a small problem with it... when I got the screen up.. it moves around (backwards and forwards) fairly easily with not a lot of resistance. Any idea how i can tighten / stiffen it up a bit?
im willing to take it apart to fix this if needed.

You cant fix it im afraid, its just the hinges themselves that have become loose.

I wouldnt bother taking it apart.

Take a look at the Toshiba site to find out if its a known fault, if it is then they will fix it under warranty.

im not sure if it is under warranty still.. its so old that it dont have a DVD drive! just a normal plain cdrom.

il have to find out how long the warranty is? i dont want to have to fork out money for it.. ive used it for years since it was new. maybe 7 years old? rough guess.

il look at toshiba's site.. if there are any methods to do it myself then post it here please (just incase toshiba cant fix it for free)
 
Yep, you're covered.

Send your laptop in for repair service, quoting:

"STP-0148 for loose hinges" as the Fault Description.

Itll get new improved hinges at no cost at all. If they try to charge, tell them theres and STP to cover as its a known fault.

EDIT: heres what it sais on the site:
Occasionally, on some Satellite 25xx & 4xxx notebook PCs, the Brake Hinges fitted to the Cover Assembly may weaken and become loose, making it impossible for the LCD to stay in the upright position. This can happen over a period of time after repeated opening and closing of the LCD.

Affected Models

Satellite 2520, 2540, 2590, 4030, 4060, 4070, 4080, 4090, 4100

Solution

If this occurs, new strengthened Brake Hinges are available and can be ordered under warranty from our Customer Supply Management Department under the following part numbers:

Satellite 25xx / 4xxx

P000269750 Right Brake Hinge
