A mate of mine is trying to build a small media PC for his bedroom he didnt like the Acer Reevo so wanted to build his own. Got some parts together from ****** for total of £265 but i though you guys should come up with something better and cheaper or near enough similar price :) here is what he got from ******.

My concern with HTPCs (and this may not concern your mate) is noise. I'd be looking at something potentially fanless (or at least that can survive with a quiet 120mm fan at very low revs) powered off a pico PSU or similar (no idea what the noise levels on that PSU will be). Some boards are now supporting m-SATA which is an even more compact way of getting your boot drive in there.

Depending on OS you might be able to get away with 2GB memory. I run all my HTPCs under Linux and even the ones that share memory with the GPU are fine on 2G.
