Small mounds of upturn soil

Hi,
Noticed the last couple of weeks our lawn peppered with small mounds of soil. Initially thought it was just decomposing leaves but I m not sure now. Any ideas what it might be? Worms?

Yeah, this morning my daughter saw one digging up the bare ground around the tree in our garden
