Just listing our requirements and hoping there is a all in one system we can incorporate. Its for a small network that will have 6 Apple Macs and 1 PC.

-Central Shared Storage drive/folder
-Backup for all the systems (would like Time Machine to work on the Macs)
-Redundancy
-6TB of usable storage

I would prefer a NAS system over a server.

Any recommendations?

Look at the QNAP or Synology offerings.

QNAP (the one I am familiar with) supports MS and Apple networking protcols and has built in GUI options for configuring the NAS as a target for TimeMachine (it works too). Synology probably does the same.

QNAPs can be backed up to external USB drives and/or some online cloud services (I use the AWS S3 integration and that works well).

Thanks. I'm looking at the QNAPS. They have quite a selection.

Another 2 additional requirements I'm hoping one of the QNAP has something to accommodate

*protection from accidental deletion from the shared network drive.
*keeps previous versions of files

Plus any tips on how to set it up.
RAID 10?

QNAP have a live demo of their operating system:

*protection from accidental deletion from the shared network drive

>>> sort of - there is a "Network Recycle Bin for each shared folder that you can enable. If anyone deletes stuff out of a shared folder it goes in to the recycle bin

*keeps previous versions of files

>>> Don't think it does this out of the box. You may have some mileage with rsnapshot though: http://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Rsnapshot (I haven't tried it)

Synology supports versioning; last time i looked at QNAP (a year or so ago), you had to go down the third-party route to get a form of versioning working.

Both Synology and QNAP are much alike though.
