When gaming fps do you prefer small or big servers

I was more a fan of like 4v4 - 6v6 in COD etc..becuase it can be more personal and more creeping about.

Like when its a big server you can get killed from every angle all the time its just a gun fest. Plus yo dont know who killed you most off time.

whereas in a 4v4 match bumping into someone is rare so it can be like a kinda spy type thing and more tense. Also you can develop personal battles against opponents.

As for Battlefield. I also like small servers/players but sometimes a full on war is cool especially as maps are so huge you need quite a large number players minimum. Sqaud deathmatch was quite fun in bfbc2

Im in 2 minds really

Depends on the game and the maps...

As a big fan of the Battlefield series I love 64 player servers. Although, currently playing the Beta and I find I prefer few players on the Metro map. The passwords are now available for the Caspian Border, so I'll try a big server for that one as it's more about vehicles.

Red Orchestra 2, I prefer few people and it tends to play more like RO than CoD.

Preferring smaller servers more and more these days?!?

It all depends on the gametype, for example...

-TDM/SQDM: 8v8 is ideal for me.
-Conquest: I really don't care, the higher the better depending on the map size.
-Rush: I would say a good 16v16 for Rush in Battlefield, sometimes 12v12, but too many players ruins the experience for me.

The whole point is to make the server not feel empty, and not feel full, that way you can have a good game without worrying about being attacked all the time from every corner and also avoid not encountering anyone for a long time during your game, you need a good balance.

I enjoy the frantic feeling of larger maps and numbers in battlefield, you really can't beat 64 players gunning it out. But I can understand that on a lot of FPS smaller numbers and squad based gameplay is more enjoyable.

Big servers on CoD4 are just daft. You end up dying from the constant 'nade spam and the only people that do well are those with great camping spots.

I like 10-16 players. Enough to allow you to 'play', but few enough that you don't get killed by bad luck all the time.

But, as others have said, it depends upon the map quite a bit.

I suppose so yeh. On large servers I tend to die from spam and would be too tempted to get kills by using some cheap trick or camping.

On small servers you can gain a better sense of your performance, i.e. if you die, it's more likely that you got outsmarted rather than just got caught off guard by some random spammy shots :p

Also on smaller servers it encourages you to work with team mates more because you don't want to be "that guy" who runs off and doesn't really contribute. On big servers it's all just very impersonal and a bit mindless. Nothing really wrong with that occasionally, but it's not going to make you a better player competitively.

Used to big servers now, feels to empty and deserted otherwise. Though, I am starting to widen my choice again, not necessarily quitting when they drop to around twenty players or so.

BF2 was amazing with 32 players on a 64 player IO maps. Hated 64 player servers, just a grenade-spam fest.

64 player vehicle maps though :D Engineer fun house!

Depends entirely on the game. Usually the available limits set by developers are there for a reason.

The TF2 servers modded to have a bigger number of players just become a cluster****. On the flipside, a BG2 server with 6v6 would be boring. Maps are designed to work best and be balanced for a number of players.

That said... 8v8 L4D was always a blast. :p

That said

Depends on the game, and sometimes map.

For example in most TF2 games I prefer smaller teams, somewhere between 8v8 and 16v16 depending on map size. Other games though like day of defeat, bfbc2 I always prefer the most players that the game allows, there was only a few maps such as karkand in BF2 that I felt was just too much grenade spam with max players.

8vs8 in most games seems to work well, I get annoyed if I have to wonder around finding people. Although I love the idea of tons of players all in the mix together like BF etc.
