Hello, I am a student that is looking for very small pc to carry it inside carry-on plane luggage with HDD in separate compartment (in my case the shorter it is the better). This is my first time building pc and I came up with this.

Thing is that GPU has 8 and 6 pin while corsair modular PSU has only 2x6 pins. The GPU comes with an adapter, but will it be enough to keep power flowing ? I picked Evga PSU just as an alternative since it has 2x 6+2 pins (and its non modular hail cables). I am all open on PSU and case suggestions. And please take a glimpse just in case I messed something up with non-compatible RAM or something of that nature. Thank you for helping me on this one ;)

Hi and welcome Dragom,

If you're not going to overclock (and it's not ideal anyway in such a small case) you could get the H97 MSI ITX mobo and free up some cash for an SSD.

The 600B's are decent PSUs but this SuperFlower is the same price and superior:

1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £53.99

What's your total budget?

Great advice, I was a little scared of the brand name but since they give you 5yr warranty nothing should go wrong with that one. I got burned by PSU choice before so I would prefer reliable PSU this time. My budget is around 640-660.

£660 with SSD. I take it this is mostly for gaming?

H97s only run RAM at 1600MHz, so specced you some you only have to set XMP on, instead of tinkering with timings and such. RAM speed won't make a noticeable difference in normal usage.

Could go for a cheap and perhaps slightly faster (in general) R9 280, but those MSI 760s are good cards and pretty much a safe bet so I reckon stick with your choice. Also have a 3-year warranty instead of just 2, and will likely be less noisy than most 280s.

SuperFlower have been making quality PSUs for years now, for companies like EVGA etc.

Seems fine, but I wonder if speed gain from ssd is worth it for me as it would only store windows and few other programs. On the other hand shock proofness and weight would be beneficial in my case.

The essential thing on the SSD is Windows (and programs) for faster operation and boot times. Games only load a bit quicker on SSD (and a few games have texture caches that would render stored textures quicker).

If you don't want/need a snappy system, you could look at 770s, 290s or 780s to improve actual gaming performance.

Another option is to start off with a 256GB SSD and no mechanical drive. That way you have room for several games too. Then add a mechanical drive later on as your storage needs increase.

Well, I have been living with 2gb of ram for 5 years so I believe (not sure about that) the overall increase of ram should be sufficient for me. The games I play the most are dota and csgo and I doubt they would benefit from ssd a lot. Gonna get 2tb ssd after 5 years I guess xD Thanks for the great help Danny ;)
