Small PC but not shuttle?

Anyone any ideas how i can build a small pc for my mother? at the moment she has a shuttle but i want to upgrade it to a quad core 9450 with 2 or 4GB of ram but not sure what pc to get her. I recently purchased two shuttles for her priced around £280 - £320 and both ended up being DOA so sent them back. Now i am wondering if i should stop buying shuttle as ive had so many issues with them in the past and look for another brand and whether or not the quality of the product is good?

anyone any ideas?

would a desktop style pc do the job ?

they are a little too big for her and the htpc are a bit ott?

as for the htpc , depends what its used for as its getting a q9450.

if that's the case check out the small form factor forum, should be able to get advice in there.

tbh i think you've been unlucky with the previous shuttles, know a few people with them and never had any problems.
