hi

i have a little MITX system consisting of these components:

Thermaltake element q case
Gigabyte H61N-USB3 MoBo
intel core i3 2100T procesor
8 gig of corsair value ram
120 gig ocz agility 3 SSD
win 7 home premium 64bit
pioneer dvd

it all works but randomly crashes. for last wk nothing, been absolutely fine. i had issues before and did a full system format etc and was lovely. i think win update may have done something as when the last set of updates inc .net 4 installed it crashed after that but re-boot fine. i had hanging issues at start but set AHCI mode on startup after bios update.

could it be windows doing this, the pc was left doing nothing and it crashed itself.

or hardware. i have run memtest and that said fine, SSD disc check under windows had 2 errors - software based i believe.

could it be the mobo/processor. or could it be the psu that comes with the machine is faulty.

stumped as all equipment is brand new.

windows update is evil I tell you, EVIL!!!!!!

It sounds like a windows based error... you may have to reformat again but when installing, win7 will ask you whether you want to have automatic updates turned on or off!!! TURN THEM OFF!!!

this should stop any problems with update problems!

Not everyone has issues with Windows Updates..

OP, when you say you ran disc check and got 2 errors, which check did you run?

If you think it was Windows Updates, then just uninstall the last set of updates you believe caused it.

If it was the updates that caused the problem then you should be able to roll back to an earlier restore point and try to download and install the updates again. I think windows creates a restore point before it installs updates.

it was windows disc error check. repaired the errors, i think it was o/s.

i must admot, i think it was the last round but system was stable after reboot. i;ll see how he gets on as it worked fine except last night.

i formatted and started again after last lot of random crashes and selected ahci then instaleld windows. on the first black screen after bios it said loading windows o/s and then lots of white thinking dots appeared whilst loading the o/s. doesn;t do it now.
