Hi all,

With christmas coming up my sister has decided to get my niece a new PC.She's got a budget of around £450 for everything so I said I'd help out.I have a spare 250 gig sata hd and can get a hold of a 5770 for £30.Main uses for the PC will be school work, browsing, music and some gaming (Sims and stuff). So I'll need

Operating system
Mobo
PSU
CPU
Ram
Monitor(Pref 20-22")
Kb mouse
Speakers

I was looking a getting a small neat case cause space is an issue and was looking at the Sugo SG06B-

These speakers

I also have a spare CPU knocking about (E2140) but it's an old socket 775.Would it be worth using this or would starting from scratch be the best option?.

It's asking a lot and sorry if it doesn't make much sense i'm half asleep still (Skyrim :) ) and I've done it off my phone thanks in advance

As it's a build for somebody else I'd be tempted to buy new rather than second hand older socket 775 stuff just in case things fail or need returning. Tight budget but it can be done. How's this for just a bit over budget. In the future can throw in an i5 or even i7, albeit they won't be able to overclock. Not sure on speakers but I'm guessing a 2.1 setup should be fine. Throw in a 5770 and the HDD and you have pretty reasonable gaming setup. Going for the SG06B really takes a large chunk of your budget. The fractal mini case is pretty small and looks OK.

Seems a good price for a 21.5" monitor with 3-years warranty too.

Thanks for that it's a great help.Like you say it's probably best to go with a newer socket.I'll have a look at that case cheers,if I did go for the Sugo would the PSU that comes with be fine to run that set up?

No I don't the SilverStone SUGO SST-SG06B PSU will be enough for the above setup with a 5770. Reivew of the PSU here. A Radeon HD5770 will consumine between 200 and 250W at full load, some reviews have it nearer 280W.

Yeah cheers that's not great, had a look at the fractal case and it looks alright so I think i'll go for that, the Sugo is just a bit too pricey for what she needs. That MSI board you recommended is out of stock at the minute so not sure to go for a different one or ask when they've got some coming in

You could look at one of the cheaper Z68 boards. Could leave a good upgrade path open if you wanted to put in an i5 2500K (& overclock it) later or even one of the Gen3 boards that'd accomodate an Ivy Bridge CPU? If not just go for a H61/H67 board with the features you need.

There is one in stock at time of writing this. Here.
